Read Your Way to Success

Books

One of my New Year Resolutions, that I set year in and year out, has always been to read 10 x non-fiction and 10 x fiction books each year. And it’s one resolution that I find it easy to keep and always embrace, no matter how busy life gets.

I remember reading a comment a few years ago that went along the lines of ‘The difference between successful people and not so successful people is reading’ and where this may or may not be a proven fact, one thing that I know for sure is that most entrepreneurial people tend to read on a regular basis.

Personally, I’ve always tried to spread my reading across non-fiction material and also fiction/easy reading, to try and keep a balanced approach. So with this in mind, here are my current Top 6 ‘non-fiction’ reads for early 2016!

1) ‘Big Magic’ by Elizabeth Gilbert

I’m going to make a confession right now (and please don’t ‘unlike’ me for being honest!), which is that I’ve never been a massive fan of Elizabeth’s actual books. I do however love Elizabeth’s articles and thoroughly enjoyed the ‘Eat Pray Love’ movie and her latest book has well and truly captured my heart. Aimed at helping you to find your creativity and live beyond fear, this book is well written and a real gem that I know I shall revisit often.

2) ‘100 Things – What’s on Your List?’ by Sebastian Terry

One man’s list of items to check off and complete to ensure he lives his life to the fullest. The list was created in moments of reflection following the passing of one of his best mates, but this is an inspiring, humorous and action packed read. I dare you not to start your own list after reading Sebastian’s book!

3) ‘Live What You Love’ by Naomi Simson

Written by the Redballoon founder and a shark on Channel Ten’s ‘Shark Tank’, this book focuses on using your passion and purpose to change your life. An easy read with lots of examples, case histories and tips, this book will teach you that if you love what you do and apply yourself, success will not be far away.

4) ‘The Healthy Life’ by Jessica Sepel

An awesome book for those that want to focus on their general health but without being fanatical. This book is a complete program to health and wellness that is easy to undertake and filled with great recipes and easy to complete worksheets and action plans. This is my guide to being the best I can be in 2016 and certainly has me motivated.

5) ‘Wonders – 100 of the World’s Stunning Wonders’ by Michael Hoffmann and Alexander Krings

This book was given to me and is a perfect gift for people who adore travel, which obviously I do! Focusing on 100 of the world’s wonders located throughout the globe, this book gives an overview of each ‘wonder’ together with a description, brief history and important facts. Also filled with stunning pictures, this is a beautiful book filled with travel adventures that will whet your appetite and give you the inspiration to undertake.

6) ‘Lean In’ by Sheryl Sandberg

This book has been the talk of the town amongst corporate women for some time now, and I can certainly understand why now that I have read. This book discusses women’s progress in leadership roles and the struggle of breaking through the ‘glass ceiling’ – a really interesting and thought provoking read for all women in business.

And very sneakily is number 7)….. ‘Strive & Thrive – 100 Tips to Ensure Your Business Success’ by Zoe Sparks (Yours Truly!)

Focusing on vision & leadership, marketing, sales, administration and people/staff, this book is easy to read and aimed at anyone interested in business. For more details or to order your copy check out www.zoesparks.com
