Who Inspires Me?

Since releasing my book a few weeks ago, we have presented and attended a number of events, and the question that comes up frequently is – Who inspires me? Who do I draw inspiration from?

Which got me thinking, as I spend a lot of time reading and absorbing (I’m a firm believer that we can always improve and better ourselves; there is always something to learn), and am also fortunate to work in the events industry, which means I often hear and see a range of amazing and inspirational speakers.

So here goes….

Lisa MessengerIn recent months, I would have to say that Lisa Messenger has probably made the greatest impact on me. Lisa is an amazing business woman, with a magazine/publishing empire that is really kicking goals internationally as well as locally. Her energy and enthusiasm is infectious and her three books are definitely worth a read, whether you are in business or not. And one of the most endearing things about Lisa is that she is a very ‘real’ and ‘ordinary’ lady who is accomplishing extraordinary things and has an amazing story to share.

I’ve also been greatly inspired by Sebastian Terry; the guy behind www.100things.com.au. At the age of 24 Sebastian took a good look at his life and where he was at after one of his best friends suddenly passed away and was a similar age. Seb’s quirky ‘100 Things’ list is now capturing lots of media attention, raising substantial funds for charity and he has become a true inspiration for all of those who pick up his book. I dare you to read his book and not be left amazed and raring to go with your own list.Sebastian Terry

When I first started out in business I was an avid follower of Anita Roddick (founder of The Body Shop) and Janine Allis (founder of Boost Juice). Both ladies had a dream which they bought to fruition by sheer determination, hard work and the will to succeed. As it turns out, both ladies also turned their small businesses into franchises and huge national/international operations. Other favourites include Richard Branson and Nigella Lawson (who wouldn’t want to look and sound like Nigella?!).

I love to read the stories of local business people here on the Sunshine Coast. We are actually spoilt here on the Coast, with a whole host of people who are amazingly talented and successful in the business arena. I have sat on a number of Awards committees in recent years, often acting as a Judge, and have been privileged to read about and shared in a huge number of success stories.

It’s important to spend time with like-minded people so that you can inspire each other and feed off each; perhaps look at possible areas for collaboration and ways to share tips, or just network and hang out so that you generally motivating, lifting and inspiring one another. If you are a ‘go-getter’ you will always want to learn, improve and be amongst like-minded individuals, always looking for the next challenge and ready to keep progressing.

So who inspires you? I’d love you to share who you draw inspiration from, who uplifts you and who drives you to be the best that you can be!
