Changes Are Afoot…

This week I have finally jumped into a few new projects; the time is right, I’ve already taken action and I’ve had a sensational week since starting to make this transition. It’s not that I haven’t wanted to do more of this sooner; it’s not that I have any doubts about the changes going forward BUT when you have branded yourself as a ‘Travel Guru’ for almost thirty years it can be a little challenging to make the change. Time to practise what I preach and teach... pushing through the fears and all that jazz! Am I still a ‘Travel [...]

Cheers to 20 Years!

Today marks a MAJOR milestone for Spectacular Events & Spectacular World Travel... today we celebrate our 20th birthday! Woo hoo!!!   In 1998, I held the piece of paper in my hand that was my company certificate... I was aged 25 years old, ready to take on the world and initially we started out with me contracting to two or three companies to run their conference events.   In less than two years, I had a travel centre in North Sydney which ran side by side to the conference work I was doing and following the birth of my first [...]

Do You have a Vision Statement?

A vision statement is a statement that positions exactly what you are aiming for your business to be or represent in the future. It’s almost positioned as the ultimate goal—exactly what you are aiming for as a pinnacle, usually as the business or organisation as  a whole. It should be very clear and concise but also detailed enough that it gives a clear description of exactly what is intended to be the end goal/objective. It will usually incorporate the core values of the business. Some visions are short—e.g. ‘To have product in every home in Australia’—whereas others will be longer. A great vision statement will usually only be one [...]

Purpose is as important as passion; to have a reason and an outcome regarding where you want to head and what you want to achieve. To have purpose is to have direction, intention, and a perceived outcome. To have purpose is exciting, a clear way, a real focus, and something to put a spring into your step each and every day. Hopefully the previous topic on ‘passion’ will have helped you to determine the things that make you tick, the things that you are good at, and the things that really resonate with you. When you’re doing what you are passionate about, a lot of the motivation, [...]

Structure Your Time

I believe that structuring your time is one of the most important skills you can try to master. The day I learnt to break down my time into blocks and manage them accordingly was a godsend! Don’t get me wrong, I am one of the most organised people on the planet. I schedule my meetings and appointments, ensuring that I stagger them so as not to stretch myself too thin, and I am also punctual to the point of frustration to others, but one day I learnt how to make sure I scheduled in other things, not just formal appointments, and this was a ‘light bulb moment’. Scheduling blocks [...]

Time to Set Your Goals for 2018

Goals are of vital importance to all businesses and also to the individuals involved, providing aims, objectives, and dreams to accomplish. Statistics show that most people don’t think about goals or work on accomplishing their goals. Of the small percentage of people that do focus on their goals, an even smaller percentage write them down. It’s proven that hugely successful people usually write down their goals—so why don’t more people do this? Everyone sits and daydreams once in a while (go on, it’s OK to admit it!), so why not turn these daydreams into goals and focus on them? Make [...]

He’s Making a List…. Are You?

2017 is coming to a close and we are all preparing for a great 2018, so are you making a list to make sure you’re on top of things after the festive break? Here are my top 5 suggestions to prepare for a bumper 2018. 1) Make a ‘To Do’ list for January. As you are winding down and enjoying parties and gatherings, we tend to put off tackling big projects but make a list of these to jump into on your return back at work. Some things may slip your mind if you don’t write them down, so [...]

Leave a Little Sparkle Wherever You Go!

This is a caption I saw a few years ago and not only did I love it because of my name (Sparks / sparkle!), it has now become my mantra and I try to apply to all that I do. When dealing with clients, staff, or colleagues, always try to listen, understand, exceed their expectations, and give them a reason to want to work with you. And it actually goes deeper than this ... smile, encourage, motivate, inspire, and uplift those who are around you. Make them feel special, welcome, heard, and valid. It’s easy to rush through and only do what needs to [...]

Under Promise & Over Deliver

This is a motto that I live by, each and every day, and it has always worked in my favour. In business and in life, it is so much better to give a realistic deadline or expectation and then exceed this if possible. People who promise the world and then don’t deliver do themselves a huge injustice, especially in today’s world when everyone expects everything to be done yesterday. We now live in a world where instant gratification is expected and people expect answers and solutions twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. But we all know that this [...]
